저자소개  Ji-Hyun Lee is an Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Culture Technology in KAIST. She received her Ph.D. in School of Architecture (Computational Design) at Carnegie Mellon University writing a thesis about integrating housing design and case-based reasoning. Since joining the GSCT at KAIST, her research focus narrowed down to three interdisciplinary areas that are not mutually exclusive: (1) calculation for UX + service design, (2) cultural DNA with morphological analysis, and (3) computational creativity. These explorations result in computer-based frameworks or systems contributing to the enhancement of the calculability using algorithmic and/or heuristic computational methods. In other words, her research focus is on 'computational culture' as an extension of computational design.
책소개  This book explores the emerging concept of cultural DNA, considering its application across different fields and examining commonalities in approach. It approaches the subject from four different perspectives, in which the topics include theories, analysis and synthesis of cultural DNA artefacts.

 After an opening section which reviews theoretical work on cultural DNA research, the second section discusses analysis & synthesis of cultural DNA at the urban scale. Section three covers analysis & synthesis of cultural DNA artefacts, and the final section offers approaches to grammar-based cultural DNA research.

 The book places emphasis on two specific axes: one is the scale of the object under discussion, which ranges from the small (handheld artefacts) to the very large (cities); and the other is the methodology used from analysis to synthesis. This diverse approach with detailed information about grammar-based methodologies toward cultural DNA makes the book unique.

 This book will serve as a source of inspiration for designers and researchers trying to find the essence, archetype, and the building blocks of our environment for the incorporation of social and cultural factors into their designs.

저자소개  Chan-Hyun Youn received the B.Sc and M.Sc degrees in Electronics Engineering from Kyungpook National University, Daegu, Korea, in 1981 and 1985, respectively. He also received a Ph.D. in Electrical and Communications Engineering from Tohoku University, Japan, in 1994. Before joining the University, from 1986 to 1997, he was the leader of high-speed networking team at KT Telecommunications Network Research Laboratories. Since 2009, he has been a professor at Department of Electrical Engineering in KAIST, Daejeon, Korea. He also was a Dean of Office of Planning Affairs and a Director of Research and Industrial Cooperation Group at former Information and Communications University, in 2006 and 2007. He was a Visiting Professor at MIT in 2003 and has been engaged in the development of Physio-Grid system with Prof. R.G. Mark`s group in LCP (Laboratory for Computational Physiology) of MIT since 2002. He also is a Director of Grid Middleware Research Center at KAIST, where he develops core technologies in the areas of mobile cloud, mobile collaboration system, Internet computing workflow management, distributed network architecture, communication middleware, advanced e-Healthcare system, e-Health application services and others. Currently, he is serving Editor-in-Chief in KIPS (Korea Information Processing Society), and Editor of Journal of Healthcare Engineering (U.K.), and served head of Korea branch (computer section) of IEICE, Japan (2009, 2010). He is a member of IEEE, KICS and IEICE, respectively.

 Min Chen is a professor in School of Computer Science and Technology at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST). He is Chair of IEEE Computer Society (CS) Special Technical Communities (STC) on Big Data. He was an assistant professor in School of Computer Science and Engineering at Seoul National University (SNU) from Sep. 2009 to Feb. 2012. He serves as editor or associate editor for Information Sciences, Wireless Communications and Mobile Computing, IET Communications, IET Networks, Wiley I. J. of Security and Communication Networks, Journal of Internet Technology, KSII Trans. Internet and Information Systems, International Journal of Sensor Networks. He is managing editor for IJAACS and IJART. He is a Guest Editor for IEEE Network, IEEE Wireless Communications Magazine, etc. He is Co-Chair of IEEE ICC 2012-Communications Theory Symposium, and Co-Chair of IEEE ICC 2013-Wireless Networks Symposium. He is General Co-Chair for the 12th IEEE International Conference on Computer and Information Technology (IEEE CIT-2012) and Mobimedia 2015. He is General Vice Chair for Tridentcom 2014. He is Keynote Speaker for CyberC 2012, Mobiquitous 2012 and Cloudcomp 2015. He is a TPC member for IEEE INFOCOM 2014. He has more than 260 paper publications, including 100+ SCI papers, 50+ IEEE Trans./Journal papers, 6 ISI highly cited papers and 1 hot paper. He has published a book on IoT: OPNET IoT Simulation (2015) with HUST Presss, and a book on big data: Big Data Related Technologies (2014) with Springer Series in Computer Science. His Google Scholars Citations reached 5,200+ with an h-index of 34. His top paper was cited 640 times, while his top book was cited 420 times as of Aug 2015. He is an IEEE Senior Member since 2009. His research focuses on Internet of Things, Mobile Cloud, Body Area Networks, Emotion-aware Computing, Healthcare Big Data, Cyber Physical Systems, and Robotics, etc.

 Patrizio Dazzi is a researcher at the Information Science and Technologies Institute (part of the Italian National Research Council) working on high performance computing and highly distributed systems. He graduated in Computer Science in 2003 at the University of Pisa, in 2004 completed an MSc in Computer Technologies, and was awarded a PhD in 2008 with a thesis titled “Tools and Models for High Level Parallel and Grid Programming”. In 2009 he became a researcher at ISTI-CNR and has been a permanent researcher there since 2012. He is currently working in the EU Contrail Project, the goal of which is to design, implement, evaluate and promote an open source system for Cloud Federations. The CNR part of this is mainly involved in the management in federation of clouds.

She also serves as a Director of Korean Society of Service Design and Innovation (KSSDI), Korean Society of Design Science (KSDS) and HCI Korea. She is a member of Architectural Institute of Korea (AIK), Korea Intelligent Information System Society (KIISS), Society of CAD/ CAM Engineers and SIG-Design Creativity of the Design Society.
책소개  This volume describes research in computational design which implements shape grammars or space syntax for morphological analysis, applying these scientific and rule-based methodologies to cultural aspects of the field. The term ‘cultural DNA’ describes the effort to explore computational design from the perspectives of a meme, a socio-cultural analogy to genes. Based on the 1st Cultural DNA Workshop, held at KAIST, Daejeon, Korea in 2015, the book considers whether there is such a thing as a ‘cultural DNA’ common throughout various domains, and if so how computer-assisted tools and methodologies play a role in its investigation.
 Following an introduction covering some fundamental theories of cultural DNA research, part two of the book describes morphological analysis in architecture, with examples from Malaysia and China. Part three then moves up to morphological analysis at the urban scale, including discussion of morphological evolution in France, development of a model Korean city, and introducing a rule-based generative analysis approach for urban planning. Part four considers methods for analysing the DNA of other cultural artefacts such as online games, novels, cars, and music, and part five introduces the tools under development that aid morphological cultural DNA research including topics about shape grammar, building information modeling (BIM), cultural persona, and prototyping.
 The book will be of significant interest to those involved in the cultural aspects of urban and architectural design, cultural informatics and design research.

저자소개  Chun T. Rim received the B.S. degree with Honor in electrical engineering from KIT in 1985, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from KAIST, Korea, in 1987 and 1990, respectively.
 Since 2007, he has been an associate professor of Nuclear and Quantum Engineering at KAIST. He has been developing various wireless power technologies including inductive power transfer systems for On-Line Electrical Vehicles.  From 1990 to 1995, he was a military officer at the Ministry of National Defense in Korea. From 1995 to 2003, he was a senior researcher at the Agency for Defense Development, Daejeon, and from 1997 to 1999, he was with Astrium in Portsmouth, U.K. From 2003 to 2007, he was a senior director at the Presidential Office, Seoul, Korea. He was involved in developing Korea’s first airborne and spaceborne synthetic aperture radars. His research areas include wireless electric vehicles, wireless power systems for robots, mobiles, wearables and IoT, and general unified modeling of power electronics. He has authored or coauthored 142 technical papers, written eight books, and holds 141 patents (awarded and pending). He won numerous awards including the Best Paper Award of IEEE Power Electronics Transactions in 2015 (wireless power) and three prizes by the Korean government. He was the chair of Wireless Power Committee of KIPE from 2010 to 2015 and the chair of EV Charger Committee of KIEE since 2011, respectively.
 He is now an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics and the Journal of Emerging and Selected Topics in Power Electronics (J-ESTPE), a guest editor of the Special Issue on Wireless Power Transfer of the IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, and J-ESTPE, and the general chair of the 2014 IEEE VTC-Workshop on Wireless power (WoW), 2015 IEEE WoW, and 2016 IEEE WoW.
책소개  This book presents a comprehensive introduction to the principles of power electronics, focusing on the switched transformer concept and phasor transformation techniques as employed in the analysis and design of power electronic circuits. Phasor transformations, as introduced in this book, make the time-varying nature of a switching converter simple and easy to handle, transforming it into an equivalent time-invariant circuit.
 The book starts with an introduction to the philosophy and fundamental principles of power electronics. The switched transformer concept, which is applicable to any switching converter, is introduced, and it is shown how DC-DC converters analyses are then so straightforward that very little equational manipulation is needed. Then the phasor transformation techniques are comprehensively explained over three parts. Single phase and multi-phase AC systems are dealt with through the single phase phasor transformation and circuit DQ transformation, respectively. A general unified phasor transformation is then introduced for the static and dynamic cases. The final part of the book considers current and potential extensions of the technique in various fields of application, including wireless power transfer, signal processing, power systems and renewable energy.
 The book avoids the piece-wise linear circuit models used in other titles, with which the mathematical results become too complicated to be used in practice. No cumbersome equations or matrix manipulations are needed with the phasor transformation techniques introduced in this book. It will be a valuable reference source for engineering students and practising researchers in power electronics and related areas.

저자소개  Chong-Min Kyung (Professor, KAIST) received B.S. in Electrical Engineering (EE) from Seoul National University in 1975, M.S. and Ph.D. in EE from KAIST in 1977 and 1981, respectively. He worked at Bell Telephone Laboratories, Murray Hill during 1981-1983. Since 1983, he has been Professor at the Department of EE at KAIST. He started Center for Integrated Smart Sensors (CISS) in 2011, sponsored as Global Frontier Project by Korean government. He has published over 300 international journal/conference papers on device physics/simulation, CAD, computer graphics, and System-on-a-Chip design including RISC/CISC microprocessors, VLIW and reconfigurable DSP cores, and video CODEC.
 His current research focuses on applying system-level cost-energy-rate-distortion optimization techniques to the design of smart sensors, especially smart cameras.
 He has led, as Founding Director, IDEC (IC Design Education Center) during 1995-2011. He received Best Paper Awards in numerous international conferences including ASP-DAC 1997 and 1998, DAC in 2000, ICSPAT in 1999, ICCD in 1999, ISOCC in 2009, and ISQED in 2014. 책소개  Is creativity something that we are simply born with and cannot hone with effort? Some say that creativity cannot be cultivated. Is it true? In general our thinking sticks to reality unless there is any external stimulation. With our thinking fixed on a certain situation, it becomes difficult to come up with a fresh idea. In this regard, three questions are suggested: (1) Question of Time: When a problem arises, question yourself on a time axis first of all. How would the matter be handled 10 or 20 years from now? (2) Question of Space: Ask yourself some questions on its spatial elements. How would the matter be handled in Saudi Arabia or in China? (3) Question of Field: Apply the given problem in a variety of fields. How would the matter be handled in the field of music or electronic engineering?
 The three questions suggested here are given on the three axes: time, space, and field, and this book deals with theoretical and practical aspects on the topics. In this way it is a unique book about the systematic method of developing creativity, which will have appeal to researchers and students in multidisciplinary fields from neuroscience to physics, and engineering and computer science, as well as a general public.
